In love a throne will be established; in faithfulness a man will sit on it- one from the house of David–one who in judging seeks justice and speeds the cause of righteousness. Isaiah 16:5

The second Sunday of Advent marks a week of preparation. As a child I played the piano. Piano recitals were a regular part of life, one that I both loved and dreaded. Preparation was the key to a successful recital. Did I prepare enough? Was I being sloppy in my preparation? For several years I did piano duets with another student. Preparation was an absolute must! If I played at the wrong time or the wrong notes, the song wouldn’t sound right.

Preparing for Christmas is so important! How do I prepare? I read the Christmas story in both Matthew and Luke and then reread it. It is amazing how little things pop out with each reading. I am in absolute awe of all of the characters! I try to see through their eyes and find it impossible. They had such faith, such obedience, and I’m sure a lifetime of preparation. What did the angels look like? I can only imagine their beauty and the perfect song they sang! I wonder what the shepherds were thinking. Were they forever changed by the events of the evening? What about the animals? Were they quietly worshiping Jesus with their lowing? I guess I’ll have to wait until I get to heaven to find out. Until then, I need to prepare for Jesus, and to do that I must read God’s word. I can’t be sloppy about it, or be lazy in my preparation. I must do it like I am preparing for the most important recital in my life…because I am!
Read Luke 2, Matthew 1&2 for the telling of the birth of Jesus. Listen to Handel’s Hallelujah chorus. Start preparing today to be ready for tomorrow!
