Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12
Little Women is one of my all time favorite movies! This movie has been remade several times, but my all time favorite is the 1994 version with Winona Ryder as Jo! She is the perfect Jo! Her acting is absolutely brilliant. Kirsten Dunst is the perfect young Amy. And Claire Danes is absolutely perfect as sweet Beth. These actresses make a perfect sister group and add Christian Bale as Laurie and you have the most wonderful cast for a movie. Susan Sarandon does an excellent job as Marme, with just enough love and toughness to be believable. The civil war was a very difficult time to live through on both sides of the war. The scenery was just gorgeous and the costumes were perfect. The March family isn’t a perfect family, but they do have love for each other and that’s what makes them the perfect movie family.
The 1949 version of Little Women is another wonderful version to watch. It has an all star cast including Elizabeth Taylor, Margaret O’Brien, June Allyson, Peter Lawford, and my favorite Mary Astor. This version is almost as good, it was done in technicolor and if you love Louisa May Alcott, this movie is a must see.
Another oldie, but goodie is the 1933 version of Little Women starring Katherine Hepburn, Joan Bennett, and Frances Dee. This is a lovely version with Katherine Hepburn playing a part that seemed to suit her nicely. She is vivaciously unafraid and I love it!
Whatever you are doing this holiday season, stop and watch Little Women. You and your family will benefit from the lessons that the March girls teach us. Have a wonderful Christmas!
