It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35

The lock down was very scary and very depressing. What did you do with all of the extra time you suddenly have? I became a Book Fairy! I saw a Tweet several months ago that showed Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, hiding books in plain sight! The book she was hiding was HOLD STILL, a portrait of the United Kingdom during the pandemic. This lovely Tweet sparked the urge to share books with our neighbors!

While I don’t have a castle to hide books around, I do have a lovely neighborhood complete with tennis courts and a park. I am still new to the Book Fairy business, but I am having so much fun! My first book to hide was Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I put an official Book Fairy Sticker on the front cover and an old fashioned library card sticker on the inside cover. The cover sticker says, “ Take this book, read it, and leave if for the next person to enjoy.” (I hope they fill out the the sticker on the inside to see how many people enjoy the book. ) Then I wrapped it in a ribbon and found the perfect place to hide it…in plain sight! Once hidden I topped the book with a little fairy and some fairy dust to make it even more appealing to the lucky person that finds it!

This week I decided to share my favorite detective and left a copy of Nancy Drew #1 for someone to find. Introducing great books to a new generation of readers is so much fun! I spent many summer afternoons reading about Nancy and the wonderful mysteries she and her friends solved. It’s so exciting to find out who did the bad thing in the end and how can Nancy figure is out so easily??? All without wrinkling her beautiful clothes…Nancy was a smart dresser!

If you want to become a Book Fairy, it’s really easy. Just go to Ibelieveinbookfairies.com . You can find all of the information you will need to pass along a good book to someone else, and if you’re lucky you’ll stumble across a book that you’ll want to read and pass along. Post a picture of you hiding place on social media and don’t forget to use the hashtag #Ibelieveinbookfairies so that everyone can see what a cute job you did of hiding it!

I hope you all will become Book Fairies and pass along the gift of reading. It really did brighten my otherwise gloomy days! I have so many books to share, I can’t wait to hide the next one!!!
