That Good Old Baylor Line Meets the Sugar Bowl!!!

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord. Colossians 3:23

Baylor is going to the Sugar Bowl again! Has is only been 2 years since the last time we went to this fabulous bowl game?? Before that it had been 63 years since the Bears had been to the Sugar Bowl. In 1957 Baylor beat Tennessee!!! I’m so glad we didn’t have to wait 63 years to go back! Baylor football is a crazy ride, most of my lifetime we haven’t won, but lately…Wow! The Bears are doing great!!!

We got these cups at the stadium during the regular football season. They are perfect for keeping our drinks cold during the game!

My family loves Baylor! We have 15 members of the Smith/Davis/Williams clan that have graduated from Baylor and we all LOVE to fling our green and gold afar! Well not too far…we are all still in Texas! My family has season tickets to football and baseball games! We can fill the stands with a lot of Sic ‘Ems!!!

You can order custom water bottle labels from Etsy or my favorite Busy Bee Gifts!!!

This year we are homegating for the Sugar Bowl. Unfortunately COVID has taken its toll on my family and several of us are sick! We are still going to make the most of it though and everyone that is well is going to enjoy a big pot of jambalaya! I thought that would be appropriate for a game played in New Orleans and I do make the best jambalaya around. That recipe will be coming soon!

Teddy Bear snack mix!

While we are watching the game we are going to snack on this yummy teddy bear snack mix. Everyone loves it! Just mix a box or two of Teddy Grahams (I like chocolate and honey), a bag of chocolate chips, and a bag of mini marshmallows together and enjoy! I love to serve this in cute green and gold snack cups or even cupcake liners!

Sugarette pin!

I love to collect things from New Orleans. It’s such a fun city! Several years ago I found this Sugarette Pin. In the 1950’s girls that live around New Orleans auditioned to be Sugarettes and perform during the Sugar Bowl half time show! Such a fun find and can you imagine how great an honor it would have been to perform at this fantastic bowl game?!?!

Spicy Cheeze-It’s recipe is on another Baylor blog post! Just check the Recipe section!

Our family always serves Spicy Cheeze-It’s at all of our tailgating/homegating events! They are everyone’s favorites and disappear as soon as they are set out. The recipe for these yummy bites is featured in the September 29 blog post “Tailgating for the Win!!!” Try it at your next get together!

The last time Baylor won the Sugar Bowl was in 1957!! Let’s go Bears!!!

One last fun thing about the Sugar Bowl. Do you know why it’s called the Sugar Bowl? In the 1920’s Louisiana was the #1 producer of sugar cane. The original stadium was built on land where Etienne de Bore became the first person in Louisiana to crystallize sugar into granules. The New York Times wrote a very interesting article on it in 2007, you should look it up!

Sugar cane! This is where sugar comes from! You’ve heard of pure cane sugar, well this is what sugar cane looks like!

When I was little my grandfather grew sugar cane on his farm for fun. I think it was just for his grandchildren. He would cut pieces off for us and peel it so that we could chew on its sugary goodness. I bought this sugar cane at out local farmer’s market. I tried peeling it back and chewing it…I think it must have been a great memory from childhood. It was sweet, but it’s definitely not something I will be doing regularly. Thank you Granddaddy for the good memories! And thank you to all of the Sugar Bowl athletes and organizers for tonight’s game. Win or lose it’s going to be a bunch of fun!!! Happy New Year and Sic ‘Em Bears!!!
