School’s out, it’s June, and it’s time to have some summer fun with summer movies! One of my favorites is the original Gidget starring Sandra Dee!!! Of course this movie came from a book by the same name and it’s also available on Amazon! I just downloaded it to my Kindle so I can read by the pool! Isn’t it great that the Kindle is waterproof? I love to read by the pool! It’s multitasking!
Although there were three Gidget movies, Sandra Dee was only in the first one. I have watched this movie every summer since DVD’s became available. I grew up on the Gulf Coast of Texas and spent many summer days playing on the beach. While I never surfed, I loved to watch the surfers climb on their boards and take off. Surfing in Port Aransas wasn’t as good as it was in California, but we still had our surfing stars!
Gidget is a sweet, sometimes a little scary movie if you are a parent. She got her name from the boys on the beach, Gidget is a combination of Girl and midget because she was so small. Made in 1959, Gidget, or Franzie (her really name) wasn’t ready to grow up, but her friends were. They headed to the beach on a man hunt, but Gidget just wanted to swim and play. After a scary swimming incident, Gidget got to ride on Moon Doggie’s surf board and she loved it! She couldn’t wait to get her own surfboard and join the boys. It looks like so much fun!
I’ve got my Kindle, my Bai, and my cute napkins from Suburban Soirée and I think I’m going to sit by the pool and read about Gidget and her adventures before I go inside and watch the movie. Maybe I will plan a quick trip to the beach to watch the surfers. So much fun! I love summer!!!
