Our Barbie book club meeting is ready to go!!!

Summer just ended and book club season is just starting up! I decided to have a very special first meeting this year by the pool. I love to have as many parties as possible poolside! It just adds a lot of fun to any event. This year’s event celebrates everyone’s fashion icon, Barbie!!!

I have collected the Barbie books from my favorite vintage book sellers on EBay and Etsy! The gorgeous bookends are from Amazon. They are made of glass and are very heavy.

Did you know there there was an entire collection of Barbie chapter books written in the 1960’s? They are written on about the 5th grade reading level and are so much fun! I never read them as a child, I didn’t know that they existed until recently. One night I went down a rabbit hole looking at vintage Barbie things and found Here’s Barbie. It was written in 1962 and is the sweetest story about how Barbie met Ken. She definitely did not treat him like the Barbies did in the movie. He was such a gentleman. The Prince Charming to her Cinderella. Literally!!!

Barbie Olipop and Barbie Cheryl’s cookies made the day!

All book club meetings need really great snacks! I ordered special Barbie edition Olipop sodas and Barbie cookies from Cheryls cookie company. They were such a fun addition but don’t worry we had a beautiful fruit tray too! I just forgot to take pictures of it! I got the Barbie Stanleyesque cup off of Etsy. Today you can buy a real Barbie Stanley! I may have bought a few…just go to the Stanley website! Don’t forget to check out my favorite napkin shop on Etsy! Suburban Soirée makes the cutest napkins for any occasion! These gorgeous ladies in swimsuits remind me of the first Barbies, so very chic!

This really reminds me of Nancy Drew!!!
Doesn’t this look like a Nancy Drew mystery?

I’m not sure, but I feel like the Barbie writers were competing with the Nancy Drew writers in some of the books. Both girls were able to fend for themselves, were very smart, drove fun cars, and could solve mysteries! I loved Nancy Drew and Barbie and I hope that they come up with more great heroines like them for today’s children. Or maybe we could reintroduce these wonderful books to our children.

Book covers are a necessity if you are going to travel with your vintage books, plus these are a bunch of fun!!! I got them from Darula Designs on Etsy. It is padded and your book slips right in, safe from accidental drops and sticky fingers and look at the Barbie’s modeling their way across the fabric!
This book was really hard to find in good condition. It must have been a favorite!
Everyone needs a Barbie towel to go with your Barbie book club meeting, especially when it is held poolside! These came from Amazon and they are so much fun!!!
I have almost all of the Barbie chapter books. I’m just missing Barbie’s Candy Stripped Summer, and Barbie and Ghost Town Mystery. I’m definitely on the hunt!
And all of my friends got to take home one of the Barbie books to start their own collection. Like I said, this was an unusual book club meeting, we mainly talked about the fun we had with Barbie as children and I was able to introduce them to a part of the Barbie world that they hadn’t heard of! I love learning about books that I haven’t read yet!
